ROY G. BIV: What’s your color story?

One of my favorite mnemonic devices from elementary school that I vividly remember was Roy G. Biv. For all my 4th grade science daydreamers out there, Roy G. Biv is an acronym that stands for the visible part of the electromagnetic light spectrum. In lamen terms, it’s the order of colors that appear in the rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet!! Just as mnemonic devices are a tool for teachers who want to help their student’s remember important facts, Preston Bailey’s The Color Palette Picker is an excellent tool for brides who need help picking out their color scheme!

I stumbled across The Color Palette Picker while checking out PrestonBailey.com and had to share this amazing tool with all of you! Whether you’re trying to figure out colors for your special day or are in the midst of planning some other type of event, this easy to use tool is a great way to help you visualize your event’s color scheme!

Start by selecting a color from his palette that sparks your imagination:

Then answer a few short questions about your event.

Then add in the Preston factor!

Presto! Your done!! Now it’s time to check out your color palette! I hope you find this as helpful as I did!!!

2012: The Year Of Romance

Gowns, Themes, Venues…Oh My!! With so many options and so little time, how do you go about planning the perfect 2012 wedding? Just think- dreamy, sentimental, love. With the New Year just shy of a month away, here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your special day:

1.) Illusion Necklines: For the perfect balance of sexy & sophisticated, try an Illusion Neckline for 2012.  An illusion neckline combines a skin-baring bodice with a sheer fabric overlay extending from the bust to the collar. Check out this gorgeous Carolina Herrera piece below.

2.) Full Scale Themes: One of the main wedding trends for 2012 is going with a full-scale theme!! Don’t just pick one theme for one aspect of your wedding!  A full scale theme is carried throughout the invites, save the dates, flowers, centerpieces and even the food and desserts. Think Vintage, Rustic and Natural! But more importantly, be sure it reflects YOU!

3.) Outdoor Venues: Outdoor weddings have been becoming increasingly more popular throughout the last couple of years and looks to continue into 2012. An outdoor venue not only provides a beautiful natural ambiance, but also requires very little additional decor. Think beaches, mansions, country clubs, family farms, and museums! Check out the photo below! This was taken at the beautiful Rose Garden, which is located at Atlanta Botanical Gardens near Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

4.) Dessert Tables: Did you know that stressed spelled backwards is desserts?!! Coincidence? I think not…why go with one option when you can have a whole table full? Instead of the traditional Wedding Cake & Groom’s Cake, Dessert Tables are a great way to incorporate both the brides & grooms favorite treats.

5.) Good Night Stations: Aside from the ice-cream and birthday cake, everyone knows that the next best thing about attending a birthday party as a kid were the fabulous goodie bags!! So why not continue that trend as an adult and see that your guests have a little something to take home with them! The goodnight station is set to take the wedding world by storm in 2012. A goodnight station is a table full of additional goodies to see guests off at the end of the night. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are credited to have started this trend back in 2002 by providing Krispy Kreme donuts for their guests as they departed from the reception. Yum!

6.) Faux Flower Decor: Think outside the vase. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when creating your flowers and decorations. Why not try feathers for a fun, flirty, flower-alternative to traditional wedding bouquets?!!  Fabric, tissue and paper can also be used as creative alternatives.

7.) Personalized DIY Decor: Although DIY is not necessarily a new trend, it continues to stay strong as Brides find creative ways to showcase their personality and save some cash. DIY, or do-it-yourself, wedding reception centerpieces and decorations typically reflect you, your fiance and your wedding theme more than anything a florist could put together for you, and you’ll do it for a fraction of the cost. Nature-inspired accents are just one of the many hot bridal trends for 2012.

Guys Getting Creative with Shoes!

One of the blogs Lethal Rhythms follows, Gangsta Bride, wrote about the shoes of the groomsmen from her friends’ wedding on one of her most recent blog posts.  We absolutely love what these groomsmen wore—customized Vans!  The groom hand painted a pair for each groomsman with inside jokes and imagery from personal memories he had with each of them!  How creative!

Apparently other people are getting creative with Vans these days as well!  Recently, Vans collaborated with stylist, Robert Verdi, and together they created a line of shoes based on Verdi’s extensive collection of vintage Hermes scarves.  We think they look incredible!

Another brand of shoes that embraces quirky and unique style is Fluevog!  There are tons of interesting eye catching aspects of these men’s shoes in all different designs and colors.  They’d be a fun, funky shoe choice for a groom or his groomsmen looking for something a little different!

If you’re interested in finding shoes at a more accessible store, try Aldo!  There are hundreds of shoes to choose from, and although their styles are much more traditional than many of the ones above, they still have a lot shoes that feature interesting details.  Check out these dual-colored leather dress shoes!

Wedding Trend Alert: METALLICS!

Lethal Rhythms loves sharing new trends with our fans, and we really love the hot trend, metallics! We mentioned the use of metallics to you earlier this season when the trend was in its budding stages, but it has really taken off now! Metallics are being used in weddings in a vast multitude of ways from invitations to wedding-day makeup!

David Tutera of We TV’s My Fair Wedding appreciates the trend and claims that metallics are “everywhere from linens to floral vessels and from table décor to bridal bouquet accents. Metallics are a luxurious touch that also add a bit of luminous texture.”

Sparkling champagne, gleaming pewter, icy platinum, shimmering copper, and gilded gold are just a few of the metallic colors that are being seen in weddings this year so far.  Wedding colors featuring the trend are usually pairing 1 bright color with 1-2 metallics, but some weddings are rocking only metallics!  This trend is so much fun and gives a wedding an elegantly rich yet modern vibe.

Instead of sticking to classic metallic colors, some brides are opting for a metallic version of her favorite color.  Lethal Rhythms absolutely loves this fresh idea!  Check out the cream and metallic-teal wedding invitation below!

The use of metallics through makeup is another great way of incorporating this trend into a wedding!  Tons of brides are sweeping gorgeous eye shadows in various metallic shades onto their lids.  Using metallic shadows is an incredible way to make a bride’s eyes completely captivating on her special day. Ex: Copper or bronze shadows will compliment blue eyes beautifully, and pewter or champagne shadows look amazing on brown or hazel eyes!

Wedding Make Up Trends of Spring/Summer 2011

Lethal Rhythms works with hundreds of brides every year, so we pick up on all of the hottest wedding trends!  Today we would like to share the trends in make up that we have been seeing this season on many of our beautiful brides!

Soft shimmer is a trend we have been seeing on a ton of brides lately. Whether she is incorporating some in her eye shadow or whether she is dusting a bit along her cheek bones or collar bones, shimmer is being seen on all kinds of brides- from traditional and elegant to sexy and contemporary. The use of tasteful shimmer is a flirty trend that compliments this skin-baring season!

Flattering pink and coral lips are another hot trend in wedding make up this season! Bold, daring lips are being paired with soft neutral eyes, and light hues of the trendy color are looking beautiful on brides when paired with more dramatic eyes.

For captivating eyes, brides have been using gel or liquid eyeliners in deep black or brown. This trend adds a little more drama and intensity than other liners such as mineral powder or pencil ones.

Of course the smoky eye is still a popular trend, and we’re seeing the smoky effect being executed gorgeously in classic neutral colors as well as other colors like dark purple or blue.

Lethal Rhythms Congratulates The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!!

Lethal Rhythms couldn’t be more excited about The Royal Wedding!  We want to congratulate the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, formerly known as Prince William and Catherine Middleton! We wish we could have been there in person; everything seemed so beautiful!

Kate Middleton, now The Duchess of Cambridge, arrived to Westminster Abbey this morning wearing a wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.  The dress was long-sleeved with an English and French Chantilly lace appliqué bodice, pleated skirt, and nine-foot train!  Lethal Rhythms thinks she looked absolutely stunning!

Toward the end of the service, Prince William and Catherine Middleton shared their personal prayer they had written for their wedding:

“God our Father, we thank you for our families, for the love that we share, and for the joy of our marriage.

In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life, and help us to be generous with our time and love and energy.

Strengthened by our union, help us to serve and comfort those who suffer.  We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus Christ.  Amen.”

Lethal Rhythms Review: Wedding Cake Trends of 2011

Friday, Lethal Rhythms posted several wedding trends so far in 2011, and today we’ll share some cake trends with you!  Lethal Rhythms had the pleasure of working 3 weddings over the weekend, and we must say– all of the cakes we tasted were delicious!

This year many cakes are elegant, yet simple.  Decoration is minimal with soft colors.  Instead of having loud and bright cakes, brides are opting for understated floral designs, often featuring roses or hydrangeas.

Another current trend in cakes is height!  Cakes have grown taller this year; couples are choosing stunning wedding cakes with lots of layers.  Even if the wedding is small with a short guest list, the cake can still keep its height!  Frosted and decorated fake cake layers can be placed between real ones for the appearance of a tall cake.

Also, buttercream frosting is making quite a comeback this year!  While fondant looks smooth and pristine, many brides are choosing delicious cakes iced with actual frosting!  Plus with an experienced and steady hand, a smooth look can definitely still be achieved with buttercream frosting.
